Standards addressed in this area and perimeter WebQuest
National Mathematics Standards:
Develop, understand, and use formulas to find the area of rectangles and related triangles and parallelogram
Develop strategies for estimating the perimeters, areas, and volumes of irregular shapes
Georgia Performance Standard:
MCC4.MD.3 Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
NETS (Technology Standards)
2. Communication and Collaboration: Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.
d. Contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems.
3. Research and Information Fluency: Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.
b. Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media
6. Technology Operations and Concepts: Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems and operations.
b. Select and use applications effectively and productively
This WebQuest can be given to the whole group by taking students to the computer lab or during you math small group time/center rotations.
This WebQuest provides opportunities for students to produce different products to show what they know. You could add an additional activity such as a ChatterPix where students can also explain area and perimeter of a rectangle.
